Temple Lights

December 2, 2009
For mutual all of the YW went to SLC to see the Temple Lights and dinner at Chuck a Rama.  Before we left Sister McCoy (Alison) gave us the be on our best behavior and stay together lecture before we left.  We all climbed into the cars and off we were to SLC.  We all met at the Trax Train Station by the SLC library.  We waited patiently for the right train and then we all got on, we thought.  After looking around to see if everyone had gotten on the train alright we realized that Alison was missing.  During the time she was missing she had gone to ask the train conductor if this was the right train to get on and been asked by a man in a wheel chair if she could help him and of course she did.  She did not know that she was then in a special section of the train where she could only get off the train when he did.  So she took a longer ride to the ES Arena station before she could get off.  In the mean time we were calling her to find out what had happend and she told us she would meet us at the temple in just a little while.  Alison caught up to us after walking a long way back to the temple grounds.  Finally we were on our way to see the lights.  We walked up to the nativity and listened to the presentation and then into the visitor center to see the statue of Christ.  While in visitor center we lost Brindy and Keylee for a short time, I think they did it on purpose.  Finally once again we were all together and we started to walk around looking at the lights, when we realized that we were missing Jessica.  So Alison took Lindsay and Kirsten to look for Jessica and also go find a friend of theirs who was singing at the Assembly Hall.  Jessica was found and they were also able to find their friend.  We then met back together after we had taken the group picture at the bridal picture spot and went to get back on Trax.  This time we all made it on Trax together and drove to Chuck-a-Rama where we had a nice dinner together and drove home safely!!!!  We have not yet decided if this is going to be an annual tradition or not!  (Hopefully we will.)

I took this picture of the Temple through the red light of a tree by the Assembly Hall.  The Temple is a little blurry, but it is still a cool picture.

Annual Thanksgiving Food Drive

November 18, 2009
Each year our YW &YM have an annual food drive.  We pass out flyers to members of our ward and ask for food donations to be placed on their front porches and we go and collect the food, sort it back at the church, box it up and take it to families in need in our ward.  We have a great ward and they alway give generously.  This kids have a fun time providing this service each year.  Here are a few pictures from that night.

Pie Making - Mia Maids

November 11, 2009
A couple of weeks before Thanksgiving our Mia Maid class learned how to make pies.  Everyone showed up for this activity and we were all crammed into Susie's kitchen - 10 of us making pies.  We had a great time learining how to make the crust, rolling them out, baking them and then making the pudding for most of the pies and pouring it into our crusts.  Emily and Kirsten made a couple of fancy fruit pies with double crusts that look really good.  Here are some pictures of our fun night together.

October 11, 2009
We had our Young Women in Excellence last night.  Our theme was the "Worth of Soles" (Souls).  We had a fun program with the YW Values and a different pair of shoes that represented each value, then we all sang I am of Infinate Worth, which is a beautiful song.  Then each girl came forward showed us their shoes and told us why they chose to bring the pair of shoes they did.  They had wonderful reasons behind their shoes and showed their personalities and their spirtuality.  Bishop Smart concluded the program with some remarks about wearing the Bishops shoes and bore his testimony about the YW program.  At the end we had the treats that Jody had prepared on our cute table above.  We had a wonderful night together celebrating being Young Women in the gospel!
Thanks to Courtney and Jody for making this such a special night!

We have been trying to make fleece blankets for awhile now.  The girls have been so busy with school activities that it has been hard to find a time to do them.  Finally on Wednesday night I just told them to come when they could and we would do them.  Three girls were able to make it at diferent times, but we had fun cutting and tying them.

We made all the girls pillow cases with the them of the retreat.  Then we all signed them.  This was a fun idea, that we will continue to do.

It took a while to sign everyone pillowcases.

Friday-Saturday, September 18-19, 2009
We held our 1st Annual 13th Ward YW Ophir Retreat.  We met at the chruch and then carpooled to Ophir.  When we arrived we had a yummy dinner of homemade soup in bread bowls, salads and cobbler for desert.  We had a great time playing games that Alison organized.  1st we split up into teams and played two truths and a lie about stories in the Book of Mormon.  Then we played a game where Alison put a name of a Book of Mormon character on your back and you had to ask yes and no questions to figure out who you were.  Next we played pictonary with Book of Mormon people, places or things.  This was my favorite game and we had a lot of fun drawing the pictures and trying to guess them first.    After playing the games Alison handed out bags of fun things in them to help them study the Bookf of Mormon.  Also in the bag she had pillow cases with the Ophir Retreat Theme on them and and we signed everyones pillowcases.  This we as hit!   Finally we ended the night by watching a couple of DVD sceens on how to use the Book of Mormon more effectively and then had a short reading time before we all went to bed.  The girls were tired and all went to bed in the bunk house and the leaders stayed up until 1AM talking and have a great time together.  In the moring we woke up and had breakfast of bagels, yogurt and fruit and then went home.  We had a great time and we look forward to next years retreat!
